About Shaaron Boyles, LCSW, CSAT Founder, Lead Evaluator and Clinical Director
Since 2000, our founder, Shaaron, has been deeply involved in working with sex offenders and with other individuals who have a history of criminal involvement. With comprehensive involvement, she holds the esteemed position of a full clinical member within the Association for the Treatment of Prevention of Sexual Abuse (ATSA). Furthermore, her professional affiliations extend to the National Organization of Forensic Social Work and the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals, affirming her commitment to comprehensive transformation through professional evaluation and comprehensive treatment.
Additionally Shaaron has worked in the mental health field since 1992. She has extensive experience working with children and families within a myriad of settings. Her training and understanding of family dynamics, attachment and trauma inform every aspect of the evaluation and treatment process. See below for her qualifications and trainings.
Professional Expertise in Mental Health
Shaaron's credentials shine through her extensive training encompassing mental health diagnosis, treatment methodologies, human sexuality, rigorous risk assessments, and the intricacies of pornography addictions. Her expertise spans the spectrum of sexual behavior problems, reflecting her unwavering commitment to making a positive impact.
Evaluations encompass the antecedents leading to maladaptive coping related to problematic sexual behavior. The origins preceding current behaviors often begin in complex family systems. Therefore, evaluations explore the complexities and impacts of childhood trauma, attachment wounding and interpersonal conflicts.
Milestone staff offer forensic evaluations and assessments for those engaged in problematic conduct. Evidence-based assessment and risk measures are used to ensure a comprehensive extensive assessment. The clinicians at Milestone Therapy and Consultation offer expert testimony at the request of the client or legal counsel. Forensic evaluations are conducted at each stage of the legal process and subsequent therapeutic interventions are recommended to support the ongoing safety and health of the individual, and community at large.
Comprehensive Training & Certifications
Shaaron became clinically licensed in 2002 and has consistently sought to expand her knowledge and provide the most up to date and evidenced based clinical care. Her background working with probationers lead to her early trainings in the Department of Corrections "Thinking for a Change" curriculum and the California State Approved Anger Management curriculum.
Shaaron's qualifications are enriched. She holds certifications in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Didactic Developmental Psychotherapy, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, among other modalities addressing mental health diagnosis and sexual misconduct. Once the evaluation is completed, treatment implements the Risk-Need-Responsivity foundation, using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing to move individuals into healthy and productive life changes using the "Good Lives Model" which is recognized as a premier curriculum. The "Facing the Shadows" workbook is an additional resources used as well, specific to pornography addiction and compulsive sexual behavior. Moreover, she collaborates seamlessly with ethical providers and court officials across North Carolina and other states.
Outside of the evaluation and treatment of sexual offenses, Shaaron has extensive expertise in attachment ruptures and trauma. She has worked as a residential clinical director and clinician for children in the foster and adoption system. She has Training in Adoption Competency, is trained facilitator for the "Circle of Security" curriculum, and has completed certifications in evidenced based treatment modalities including EMDR, DDP and TF-CBT.
She has completed Continuing Education specific to conducting forensic evaluations and parenting evaluations.
RISK-NEED- RESPONSIVITY
The Department of Justice and Corrections recognizes the validity of the risk–need–responsivity (RNR) model which is a recognized model towards reducing risk and individualized change. Evaluation's include psychosexual and psychological assessments rooted in reliable, valid and empirical constructs.
